Volunteer Food Program Celebrates Milestone 40000 Served

Volunteers gather at Rhea Valley Elementary each week to assemble bags of non-perishable meals and snacks for food-insecure students at three Washington County schools.

The volunteer-run backpack program bridges the gap for students who may not have enough to eat on weekends and during breaks when there is no access to school meals.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, food security is critical to the success of a child in and out of the classroom.
