Find Your Voice


The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" may be the most well-known song in the history of rock 'n' roll, but for a group of teens in San Francisco, it's more than a song.

For the past 14 weeks, 10 teens have been taking part in Sing It Out, a program put on by AHA!, a nonprofit that offers social-emotional education to more than 20,000 teens and youth care providers in the Bay Area, the Mercury News reports.

The goal of Sing It Out is for the teens to "flip the script on their inner critics and find their voices," AHA! co-founder Jennifer Freed tells KGO-TV.

The goal of Sing It Out is "self-actualization, resiliency, relationship building, and artistic expression," according to the nonprofit's website.

During the Sing It Out program, participants learn vocal training, get to know professional musicians, and then perform a solo cover of the Beatles' song in front of an audience.

"Right off the bat, it was a good reminder that teens' lives are hardly stress-free, with thorns ranging from things like homework and frustrations with social media to social anxiety, feeling self-conscious, and feeling depressed," Sing It Out participant Lamar Russell
