Star Refrigeration Awarded Two Major Sustainability Awards at Cold Chain Federation ...

Star Refrigeration has been named the "Technological Breakthrough Innovation of the Year" at the Cold Chain Federation's 2024 awards.

The honor goes to the company's Ethos AI-powered software that monitors and analyzes the energy use of refrigeration equipment at eight Tesco distribution centers in the UK, saving the supermarket giant more than 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, the BBC reports.

The software also helped Tesco's maintenance team make more informed decisions about which parts of the equipment to replace, according to a press release.

"The installation of Ethos in multiple distribution centers has been successful in meeting diverse operational and energy efficiency needs," a Star Data Analytics business development manager says.

"Its versatility meant that it could be retrofitted into existing cooling equipment, effectively working alongside maintenance and service teams, to optimise energy use by providing deeper insights into cooling issues and enabling informed decision-making."

Star's Ethos was also named the Cold Chain Federation's Climate Champion for driving sector-wide energy efficiency.
