2024 Macvicar Faculty Fellows Named

Four faculty members at MIT have been named MacVicar Faculty Fellows for their "exemplary and sustained contributions to undergraduate education," the school says in a press release.

Karl Berggren, Andrea Campbell Pollock, Emily Richmond Pollock, and Vinod Vaikuntanathan, who teach electrical engineering and computer science, join an elite group of scholars who are "committed to curricular innovation; exceptional teaching; collaboration with colleagues; and supporting students through mentorship, leadership, and advising," the release says.

"It is a great honor to have been selected for this fellowship," Berggren says.

"I've also learned a great deal over this period from my colleagues by way of their efforts and thoughtful feedback."

Berggren, who received his PhD from Harvard, is known for his humor in class and for helping his students solve problems, MIT News reports.

"Instead of [he] taking over the labs, the labs are now a place that inspires us, and welcomes us to ask questions in class and in the greater engineering field," a student says.

He's also "deeply invested" in his students, helping them " extract key takeaways from their assignments and come to correct solutions on their own," a fellow professor says.
