The UK's Charity Commission has issued new guidance for charities, and it's a doozy: The law is clear that "when charities are offered a donation, the law is clear that their starting point should be to accept unless there is very good reason not to," says Orlando Fraser, the commission's chair.
In its new guidance, the commission says charities can consider donors' "extent of any potential conflict between the donation and your charity'spurposes" and "your donors and other stakeholders' views," but they must "not allow yours or others' personal motives, opinions, or interests to affect your decision."
The guidance also says charities must refuse donations from illegal sources, such as terrorist organizations, or from people with "illegal conditions," the Telegraph reports.
