"Yeah, it has been rough," says Randy Cohen, VP of research at Americans for the Arts.

"But we're coming back.

We're working our way back."

That's based on a new study that found arts and culture in cities across the country pumped $85.6 million into the local economy between 2012 and 2022, the Arizona Daily Sun reports.

The study, conducted by Americans for the Arts, also found that the industry supported 1,062 jobs, provided $43.5 million in personal income to residents, and produced $12.7 million in tax revenue to local, state, and federal governments.

"We were patiently waiting to see what the study said just to make sure that we were doing well in recovery," Jonathan Stone, executive director of Creative Flagstaff, tells the Daily Sun.

"On one hand, we're doing really well.

Of course, on the other hand, there's always opportunity for improvement to continue to rebuild audiences."

The last Americans for the Arts study to look at arts and culture in cities across the country was in 2017, when the industry generated $89.8 million and supported 3,035 full-time jobs, provided $67.7 million in household income, and produced $9.1 million in local and state government revenue.
