Bullying-suicide link explored in new study

Researchers at Yale School of Medicine have found signs of an apparent connection between bullying, being bullied and suicide in children, according to a new review of studies from 13 countries published in the International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health.

The McCormick Foundation approved more than $6.2 million in additional grants for 2008-the first installment of over $18 million to be invested through 2011.  Since 1993, the Foundation has invested more than $80 million in a broad range of activities to build a system of early care and education in Illinois.

Grants to Enhance Libraries in Low-Income Schools

The U.S. Secretary of Education announced the award of $18,258,896 to enhance libraries in 59 low-income school districts across the United States. U.S. Department of Education Awards New York $16.6 Million Grant to Help Create More Charter Schools

New York is one of five states receiving the competitive grants through the Department's Charter Schools Program (CSP), which supports states' efforts to plan, design, implement and disseminate information about charter schools.  To create a continuum of K-12 high quality charter schools in New York state, the CSP grant funds will also be used with greater emphasis on secondary charter schools.

More than 2/3 of Massachusetts residents support health reform law

In the two years since the law's passage, approximately 350,000 Massachusetts residents have gained health insurance coverage.  The poll finds that the public is aware of the law's success at reducing the number of uninsured in the state with 14% saying the law has been very successful and 57% somewhat successful.
